What Greyward: Castaway Survival is

You wake on the shore of a misty island next to a strange old vessel whose ribs are carved with glowing runes, and by day the island is free to explore.

At night the Grey rolls in, a mist that burns anyone caught outside the fort, so the day-night cycle itself is the main survival clock rather than a cosmetic effect.

Survival also covers hunger, cold and weather: rain, storms and snow chill you, and you cook stews at the camp fire, brew herbal tea and wear fur.

The camp grows through upgrades such as a drying rack, a rain shelter and a smokehouse, and crafting moves from stone axes and flint spears to bone, obsidian and moon shards.

Rune towers, Grey camps and far islands

Every island has a rune tower with endless floors, and a guardian waits every tenth floor behind rune pillars with its own hazards and unique gear on floors 10, 20 and 30.

Eight of the vessel's crew were taken by the Grey and now lead walled camps at the four winds of the island, each guarding a Grey Heart that you clear by beating the guards and then the chief.

The vessel sails to eight far islands: a cane-field isle, frozen crags, a volcano, a land of rusted machines, a thorn jungle, a coral reef, cloud-high crags and a dark isle.

Each far island has its own creatures, bosses, rune tower and a page of the vessel's log.
