01

Your first ten minutes

Every player joining for the first time receives a free Starter Egg, which only hatches into a Cat or a Dog - both common pets.

Open it and care for it: eggs hatch by completing tasks, the same way you look after a pet or a baby.

The Nursery board shows every pet currently in the game alongside the ones you own, so it doubles as a completion tracker.

The Starter Egg is untradable and currently has a 100% chance of hatching into a common pet, so it is a guaranteed baseline rather than a lottery ticket.

02

Getting more Starter Eggs for free

A maximum of three more Starter Eggs can be earned by completing achievements in the Guide.

Of those three, one hatches into a Dog or a Cat, while the other two hatch into an Ant or a Mouse.

That is four pets before you spend a single coin, which is enough to start a routine.

Because the Starter Egg cannot be traded, there is no reason to hoard it - hatch as you go.

03

Which eggs to buy, in order

Three eggs have been in the game since pets launched and never leave: the Cracked Egg at 350, the Pet Egg at 600 and the Royal Egg at 1,450, all bought in the Pets section of the Nursery.

The Retired Egg arrived on July 21, 2022 with the Normal Eggs Refresh update and contains all the pets from the older version of the refreshed eggs - it costs 600 from the VIP room inside the Nursery.

There is no limit on how many times you can buy any of these, so progressing up the price tiers is a matter of savings rather than access.

If you want to skip the task grind, the Hatch Now! gamepass costs 35 per egg, can be bought repeatedly, and refunds an Instant Hatch Potion if the egg fails to hatch.

04

Ageing, tricks and neon goals

Pets can be looked after like babies and aged up, which is how they learn new tricks - ageing is the long-term project in Adopt Me.

Four of the same pet at Full Grown combine into a Neon, and four Luminous pets combine into a Mega Neon.

That chain is why duplicates are valuable: four unwanted pets of the same kind are worth more as one neon than as four singles.

Pets come in five main rarities - Common, Uncommon, Rare, Ultra-Rare and Legendary - plus a rarer Event category whose pets were removed from inventories after a period of time.

05

What you need before trading

Trading originally allowed 4 items per side; the 2020 Trading Update raised it to 9 and added a test players must pass to unlock the Trade License.

The Trade License is required specifically for trading Ultra-Rare and/or Legendary items - it was added to reduce scams.

On May 5, 2023 the number of trading slots rose again to 18, along with trade chat notifications that track changes inside a trade.

The Trade License is therefore the gate between casual swapping and real trading, and it is worth completing early.

06

How a trade actually runs

Click the player you want to trade with and select Trade, or press 1 on a keyboard; they receive a request they can accept or decline.

Each side adds items with the green '+' icon, and clicking an item removes it - every change resets a 5-second countdown before the accept button appears.

If the game judges a trade unfair, a pop-up warns that scamming is bannable and the system grants 15 extra seconds to think it over.

Since January 14, 2026 either player can request to view the other's backpack during a trade, and can suggest adding or removing items through the trade chat.

The Trading Hub, added July 31, 2026, allows trading across all servers through the Trading Hub Phone, with listings posted through Robo-Todd and Robo-Rob.

07

Free and limited eggs worth knowing

The Starter Egg is untradable and has a 100% chance of a common pet, while up to three more can be earned through Guide achievements.

The Pet Releaser, added September 12, 2025, lets you release pets to receive Tickets, which buy a Basic Egg for 400 or a Crystal Egg for 4,000.

Limited eggs rotate on the Gumball Machine and leave after a few months - the lineup has included Safari, Jungle, Farm, Aussie, Fossil, Ocean, Mythic, Woodland, Japan, Southeast Asia, Danger, Urban, Desert, Garden, Moon, Aztec, Endangered and Fairytale Eggs.

Once a limited egg leaves, the only way to get its pets is trading, which is why old egg pets hold value.

Pets that cost Robux, came from event currency, or were opened from boxes sit outside the egg system entirely.

Because hatching is task-based, the cheapest strategy is to keep several eggs running at once rather than focusing on one.
